Saudi-led Bombing on ’Residential Complex’ Kills 55 in Yemen’s Taiz, Ahead of Ceasefire

Saudi-led bombing targeted a residential complex for engineers and technicians of Mocha power plant killed at least 55 people and left tens injured in Yemen’s Taiz, the news agency SABA said on Saturday, ahead of a ceasefire announced by Saudi Arabia on the same day.
The Saudi-led bombing targeted the Mokha area inhabited mostly by engineers and workers of a power station and some displaced families, a local source in Taiz was quoted as saying .
The number of casualties is expected to rise as rescue services are still working in the area and several of those injured and transferred to nearby hospitals are in serious condition, the source said.
A coalition of Arab states, led by Saudi Arabia, has been bombing in Yemen since March in a bid to reinstate Yemen’s fugitive former President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who has fled to Saudi Arabia.
A Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States has been carrying out airstrikes against Yemen since March. The airstrikes have not been authorized by the UN.
Based on UN figures, over 3,261 people have been killed, 1,670 of whom were civilians in the Saudi onslaught.
