A total of 13,395 Yemeni patients have died since the start of the closure of the airport due to their inability to travel or to receive medicines and medical solutions transported by air because of the blockade imposed by the Saudi-led coalition.
The General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology, Dr. Mazen Ahmed Ghanem, called on the United Nations, international and humanitarian human rights organizations and the Human Rights Council to move quickly to lift the siege on Sana’a International Airport to save the lives of thousands of sick and disabled people.
Ghanem reiterated the call by the United Nations and human rights organizations to act quickly to put an end to the illegal and inhumane practices resulting from the closure of Yemen’s Sana’a airport, which has caused a humanitarian disaster and turned the war-torn country into a large prison.
In a statement to Saba, Ghanem said 95,000 patients were waiting for an unknown fate as a result of the closure, in addition to students studying abroad or wishing to return home.
He pointed out that about 50 thousand civilians are unable to afford the cost of living abroad, pointing out that the Saudi-led coalition’s actions to restrict and cancel many flights to and from the airports of Aden and Siouin exacerbate the humanitarian situation.
The spokesperson called on the United Nations and international human rights organizations to shoulder their responsibilities and to open Sana’a International Airport for purely humanitarian reasons.
