Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Monday that continuation of war and aerial bombardments as well as besieging the Yemenis from air and sea has caused a huge population of Yemeni citizens face famine and starvation.

According to the report of the Foreign Ministry Media Department, Qassemi highlighted the current developments in Yemen and the intensified deterioration of humanitarian conditions, adding that Yemeni people are facing a very hard situation.

Referring to the outbreak of different illnesses, especially cholera, in Yemen, Qassemi called on the international community and organizations to increase their efforts for humanitarian aids to the country.

He pointed to the lack of necessary interest to resume political talks and called for serious moves by the international community to persuade all political groups to hold talks.

The spokesman underlined the sole solution for the current situation in Yemen is political mechanisms through holding dialogue among all political groups and formation of a comprehensive government.

Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf countries have been blockading Yemen by air, sea and land since March 2015 in an attempt to bring back to power resigned President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

The military invasion against Yemen has left over 12,000 civilians dead, tens of thousands injured as well as millions of refugees and demolished infrastructure.
