Yemenis from displacement camps as well as those living in the capital of Sana’a were preparing for the holy month of Ramadan on Friday (May 26) amidst food shortages, lack of clean water and shelter.
Amran, camp for internally displaced people (IDP) north of Sana’a is flooded with families who can hardly provide for themselves and many depend on aid provided by relief organizations or charities.
Local markets and supermarkets have been doing their best to prepare for Ramadan, which is likely to start on Saturday (May 27) by keeping supply of goods flowing amidst the ongoing siege on the country's main port in Hodeida.
Due to the ongoing Saudi aggression, even those who are employed, like Naguib Al Kamel, a resident of Sana’a, have been unable to provide for themselves and their families.
"The poor citizen depends on their salary, the salary which they haven't been receiving for the past seven months. How can they buy food to prepare for Ramadan?" he said.
Yemen faces threat of famine and an outbreak of cholera epidemic.
More than 12,000 people have been killed and millions displaced in more than two years of war, which has also destroyed much of the country's infrastructure.
