Following revelations that the Pentagon had recently ramped up its airstrikes in Yemen, the American media is reporting that the US has also increased its ground missions in the war torn country.
The missions led by US Special Operations units are reportedly a response to growing concerns over al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
Earlier this year US forces killed dozens of civilians during a raid allegedly targeting one of the group’s leaders.
CNN - a vocal critic of the Trump White House - cited two officials with direct knowledge of the operations saying that special forces are carrying out covert ground operations to collect intelligence on AQAP.
The recent disclosures are also likely to raise further questions over a possible increase in US support for the Saudi-led coalition bombing Yemen since March 2015.
