May Presented With Top Saudi Honor During Riyadh Visit

Saudi Arabia’s monarch presented visiting British Prime Minister Theresa May with the kingdom’s highest civilian honor as UK-supplied bombs kept raining down on Yemen.

Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud presented May with the so-called ‘Order of King Abdulazi’ during talks held in Riyadh.

The order is named after the founder of the kingdom, Abdulaziz Al Saud, and is bestowed to citizens of Saudi Arabia and foreigners for meritorious service.

During the meeting, current bilateral relations and ways the increase ties in all fields were discussed.

May’s visit comes at a time when the UK is under pressure to halt its arms sales to Saudi Arabia, which is engaged in a brutal military campaign against Yemen.

Earlier in the week May departed for the Middle East insisting that she had no problem raising “hard issues” with Saudi officials.

according to Amnesty international, since the onset of the war in 2015, the US and the UK have sold over $5 billion worth of weapons to Riyadh.

Saudis launched their attack on Yemen in the hope of undermining the Houthis and reinstating ousted leader and Riyadh ally Abed Rabu Mansour Hadi. Since March 2015 over 12,000 civilians have been killed and millions displaced.
