In what is being described as a unique operation by military officials in Sana’a, Yemeni forces have reportedly killed dozens of Saudi-backed foreign fighters.
Wednesday’s operation in Sana’a’s Nehm district, involving the Yemeni army and popular committee forces, resulted in a major blow for the Saudi-led coalition after its fighters attempted to advance on the Yam Mount and the al-Tabab al-Sawd areas.
Despite receiving air cover from Saudi jets, the foreign fighters still sustained heavy casualties.
Meanwhile in the western province of Al-Hodaydah, Yemeni forces shot down a Saudi drone. The aircraft was reportedly flying over the province’s Zabid district when it was hit.
The latest losses spell further complications for Riyadh in what is already become a catastrophic military failure. By most accounts the Saudis have long since resorted to collectively punishing the Yemeni civilian population, having failed to achieve any of their stated military objectives.
