The governor of Yemen’s northwestern Saada province, Mohammed Jaber Awad, is looking to improve the health services for women and children.

Awad met with the acting Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Aziz Gildi, to discuss ways to counter the devastating effects of the crippling health services sector in his province.

According to Awad, "the Saudi-led aggression considered Saada province as a military zone and has been bombing everything moving on the ground".

Aside from the Saudi enforced air, sea and land blockade of Yemen, the bombing raids have also played a role in devastating Saada’s medical facilities.

For his part, the provincial governor expressed his readiness to cooperate with the UNFPA to improve Saada’s health sector.

The UNFPA’s Aziz Gildi said that his visit to Saada was aimed at determining the emergency needs in Yemen, which the fund would either work to provide or disucss with donor countries.
