Critical Doctor Shortage Across Yemen

The war in Yemen has left 40 percent of the country’s districts with a critical lack of doctors, and more than half of Yemen’s medical facilities either closed or partially functioning, the UN World Health Organization (WHO) said in a press release.

The WHO stated that 49 out of 276 districts have no medical doctors, with 42 per cent of surveyed districts having two doctors or less," the release stated on Monday.

Yemen has been engulfed in violence for more than 18 months with the Saudi-led coalition waging an air war against the country’s civilian infrastructure. Thousands have been killed in the indiscriminate bombing of hospitals, open markets and other civilian spaces.
