The Yemeni army spokesman brigadier general Sharaf Luqman said that the leadership of the army and popular forces will commit to the ceasefire as long as the enemy also abides by it on land, sea and air.
"The leadership of the army, security and the People’s Committees’ forces confirm that after the confirmation of the Supreme Political Council to positively deal with invitations announced to stop the aggression against our country, lift the siege, and remove the air embargo, the army, security and people’s committees’ forces will abide by the cease-fire according to the declared specified time," Luqman said in a statement late on Wednesday.
However, Luqman warned that the allied forces are ready to immediately retaliate against any aggression on time.
A UN-brokered ceasefire has gone into effect in Yemen a minute before midnight on Wednesday, and will continue for 72 hours.
It is the sixth attempt to end the bloodshed since a Saudi-led Arab campaign launched a war on Yemen in March 2015 to support the regime of fugitive President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
About 10,000 people have been killed and over 16,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.
