In observance of the International Peace Day (21 September), the non-government humanitarian organizations in Yemen, in association with partnerships, activists, journalists and all adherents to the peace, staged an event in the capital Sana’a on Wednesday to call for peace and exert pressure to immediately end the Saudi aggression against Yemen.

The groups organized a marathon race in Sana’a with 2000 activists participating.

The race kicked off in the Sabeen area south of the capital to al-Dhurafi Football Stadium in downtown the city.

The NGOs delivered a statement calling for the international community, the United Nations and all humanitarian groups throughout the world to stand by Yemen and pressure Saudi Arabia to ends its aggression against the Yemeni civilians.

They also called for the immediate lifting of the Saudi aggression air and sea siege on Yemen to let in food and medicine reach thousands of entrapped Yemenis.

This world anniversary comes as Yemen suffers from unjust and brutal aggression for the second straight year.

The Saudi airstrikes and militiamen have killed over 10,000 civilians since the aggression began against Yemen in March 2015. Over three million Yemenis were displaced during the unfair aggression

"With this prolonged suffering from aggression war, the Yemeni people are looking forward to the international community, United Nations and its humanitarian agencies to stand by the humanity, oppressed peoples to press for immediate end to the deadly war," read the statement.

It said that, "Yemen and its people have been the advocates of peace since the beginning of history, and that have never ever been the aggressor against any human beings."

"Here we stress the importance to call on all humanitarian organizations to bear their responsibilities to use all legal various means to press for immediate end to all aspects of the war and siege that exhausted the Yemeni people and help for re-building our homeland for all citizens in all their different political, cultural and social affiliations," the statement said.

The NGOs also called on all parties "to reach a comprehensive peace for the sake of Yemen’s children’s future and to engage in re-building the country."

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

About 10,000 people have been killed and over 16,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.
