Yemeni Delegation Heads to Oman

Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement cut short its regional tour late on Thursday and headed to Muscat to meet with the UN envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.

According to the Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency, the movement will be meeting the UN envoy to Yemen, who will be arriving in the Omani capital from New York on Saturday.

Ould Cheikh Ahmed will be discussing arrangements with the Yemeni delegation for the upcoming round of consultations, which is scheduled to kick off on September 6.

The scheduled negotiations come after the Kuwait consultations failed one moth earlier.

Earlier, the Houthi delegation met with Iraqi President Fouad Masoum, Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi, and Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari in Baghdad.

Sources close to the revolutionary movement stated that the delegation’s sudden return to Oman was due to a request from the Omani government to meet the UN official.

The regional tour is part of lobbying efforts to gain international recognition for a political body recently formed by the movement and allied factions to run the war-ravage country.
