Ansarullah Ready to Continue Peace Talks With Hadi Regime

Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement declared their readiness to resume peace talks with the Hadi regime if all the hostilities in the country are terminated, local media reported on Sunday.

According to the Saba news agency, the Supreme Political Council formed by the Houthis last month, expressed willingness to support any peace initiative if the Yemeni regime and its allies stopped all the military operations against the revolutionaries.

In August, the UN-brokered talks in Kuwait ended with the Hadi regime and Houthis failing to come to an agreement. As the talks broke down, the hostilities intensified in Yemen.

On August 25, the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom have agreed on a new plan to resolve the ongoing conflict in Yemen, which includes prompt establishment of a new unity government in the country and the transfer of arms to a third party.

Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the regime headed by Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and Houthi revolutionaries, the country’s main opposition movement. The Houthis are backed by army units loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Since March 2015, the Saudi-led coalition of mostly Persian Gulf countries have been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis at Hadi’s request.

About 10,000 people have been killed and over 16,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.
