Yemen Crisis Has No Military Solution: Official

Yemen crisis has no military solution and political dialogue should be held to solve the problem, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, a former diplomat and a special aide to the Majlis (Iranian parliament) Speaker for international affairs said.

Former deputy foreign minister for Arab-African affairs made the remarks in a meeting with a visiting delegation from Yemen on Sunday.

The official said that the Yemen issue has only a political solution and urged Saudi Arabia to give up attacking the Yemeni people.

Holding its first session the Yemen parliament sent a clear message to the world that Yemeni people and the country’s political leaders would continue protecting their country’s sovereignty and national unity, he noted.

Amir-Abdollahian said that Iran’s Majlis welcomes promotion of parliamentarian ties with the Yemeni parliament.

Iran supports a peaceful resolution of the Yemen crisis without foreign interference, he added.

The head of the Yemeni delegation praised Iran’s support of Sana’a and called for development of cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments.

In a move to challenge the Saudi-backed resigned government, the Yemeni parliament has held its first session since the outbreak of conflict in the Arab country almost two years ago.

Yemeni lawmakers attended the session in the country’s capital, Sana’a, on Saturday.
