UNSC Working on Draft Resolution Denouncing Attacks on Hospitals in Yemen

The United Nations Security Council is working on a new draft resolution urging to stop attacks on hospitals and medical establishments in Syria, Yemen and other conflict zones, AFP said on Thursday.

According to the news agency, the document is being drafted by Egypt, Japan, Spain, New Zealand and Uruguay which are non-permanent members of the Security Council.

The document is to fix that attacks on medical establishments are a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and demand those responsible for such actions be held accountable.

Yemen has been under military attacks by Saudi Arabia since late March last year. The Saudi military strikes were launched in a failed effort to undermine the popular Houthi Ansarullah movement and bring the former fugitive president back to power.

More than 8,300 people, among them 2,236 children, have been killed and 16,015 others injured since the start of the aggression. The strikes have also taken a heavy toll on the impoverished country’s facilities and infrastructure, destroying many hospitals, schools, and factories.
