The official spokesperson for the Houthi Ansarallah movement, Mohammed Abdul Salam, welcomed the European Parliament’s decision to prohibit the sale of arms and weapons to Saudi Arabia.
On his Facebook page, Abdul Salam, expressed hope that the decision would be a step towards a European awakening: "We welcome the European Parliament’s authentication of the decision, even though it is late, to call on the European Union to ban weapons sales to the aggression countries due to the crimes against humanity they are committing in Yemen. We hope that this decision would be a step towards a European awakening where the EU regains its role away from the American squadron, which is Self-absorbed in its project to divide the region."
Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
About 8,300 people have been killed and over 16,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.
