Several Saudi Soldiers Killed in Jizan

Tens of Saudi soldiers were killed and others injured in operations carried out by the Yemeni army and popular committees in Jizan province, a military official said Thursday.

The army backed by the popular committees including the Houthi Ansarullah movement repelled a Saudi attempt to advance on the strategic al-Doud Mountain, killing 20 Saudi soldiers and wounding scores of others during the operation, the official explained.

He pointed out that the Saudi army advance was backed with an intense air cover, armored vehicles and hundreds of troops.

Three troop carriers belonging to the Saudi-led coalition were ambushed during their advance toward al-Doud Mountain, killing a number of Saudi soldiers.

This as a Saudi soldier was shot dead by snipers of in al-Manaq site.

Saudi military sites behind the government compound in al-Rabua’h in Asir and al-Sudais site in Najran were bombed with barrages of rockets and dozens of artillery shells.

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

About 8,300 people have been killed and over 16,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.

Yemeni forces have been engaged in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
