Yemen’s army and popular committees backed by the Houthi Ansarullah revolutionaries said on Monday that they fired two ballistic missiles at a military base in the area of Khamis Mushait in the south of Saudi Arabia.
According to media reports, two rockets launched from Yemen targeted the King Khaled Air Base in Khamis Mushayt.
The leadership of the Arab coalition, led by Saudi Arabia, said in a statement that Saudi Air Defense intercepted a ballistic missile and destroyed a launching pad inside Yemen.
The statement clarified that the projectile was destroyed in the air before causing damage, without referring to a second rocket.
Yemen has been under military attacks by Saudi Arabia since late March last year. The Saudi military strikes were launched to supposedly undermine the Ansarullah movement and bring the fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, back to power.
At least 8,278 people, among them 2,236 children, have been killed and 16,015 others injured since March 2015. The strikes have also taken a heavy toll on the impoverished country’s facilities and infrastructure, destroying many hospitals, schools, and factories.
Yemeni forces have been engaged in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
