Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham strongly condemned on Thursday the recent extremist attack claimed by so-called "Daesh" ["ISIL"] on a mosque in Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, which killed and wounded scores of worshippers.

In a statement on Thursday, Afkham expressed sympathy with bereaved families of the victims.

She said that war on different parts of Yemen is aimed at imposing all-out pressure on the country’s Muslim nation and forcing them to surrender to the aggressors.

She also pointed to the recent death of two Red Cross aid workers in Yemen, and asked for the international circles’ effective measures to deal with the catastrophe in Yemen and end daily attacks on the Yemeni nation.

On Wednesday, twin bombing claimed by the so-called "Daesh" ["ISIL"] extremist group targeted a mosque in Yemen’s capital of Sanaa, killing 32 people. A further 92 people were wounded in the "Daesh"-claimed bombings, the latest in a string of attacks carried out by the extremist group.

This is the fifth mosque attack over the past two months in Sana’a.

The twin bombings in the capital comes as the crisis in Yemen continues unabated with Saudi Arabia bombarding different areas in the country.

A Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States has been carrying out airstrikes against Yemen since March. The airstrikes have not been authorized by the UN.
