Iran: Dialog in Yemen Sole Solution to Conflict

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, said on Thursday that a dialog in Yemen is the only way out of the deadly crisis in the war-ravaged country.
In a phone conversation with the United Nations [UN] Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmed on Thursday, Amir-Abdollahian said that the escalation of war coupled with military measures adopted by certain countries in Yemen would not only fail to help resolve the Yemeni conflict, but would also further complicate the trend of resolving the crisis.
He lashed out at the international community for turning a blind eye to the massacre of the Yemeni civilians, especially women and children, stating that such killings run counter to international regulations on human rights, and thus, the perpetrators must accept the responsibility for their brutal actions.
He also stressed the constructive role of the UN in finding a political solution to the Yemeni crisis.
For his part, the UN official reiterated calls for a political agreement between all Yemeni parties and the establishment of a ceasefire in Yemen.
He underscored that avoiding war and resorting to a political solution would serve the interests of everyone in Yemen and the whole region.
Saudi warplanes have been carrying out airstrikes against Yemen since March 26, with the Saudi regime defying international calls for a halt to its deadly military aggression, which has led to a deteriorating humanitarian situation in the impoverished country.
This week on Tuesday, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights [OHCHR] reported that the ’civilian’ death toll in Yemen has risen to at least 1,916, with another 4,186 civilians wounded since the escalation of the conflict in March.
