The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee in the Iranian Shoura Council, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, strongly criticized the western countries on Wednesday for keeping silent on the massacre of Yemeni people.

"The silence of the west towards the mass killing of the Yemeni people, especially defenseless women and children, is regretting and astonishing", Boroujerdi said in a meeting with outgoing Danish ambassador to Tehran on Wednesday.

Based on UN figures, over 3,261 people have been killed, 1,670 of whom were civilians in the Saudi onslaught.

Asked about the regional situation, Boroujerdi pointed to the massacre of defenseless people of Yemen by Saudi military men in cooperation with so-called "Daesh" [ISIL], and he said, "Saudi Arabia committed a big strategic mistake and the support by the US and some western countries of the Saudi aggression is repeating the same mistakes that they committed in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan".

On March 26, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies began to militarily interfere in Yemen’s internal affairs by launching air strikes in the country in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Saudi Arabia.
The airstrikes have not been authorized by the UN.
