The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei, said on Saturday that the nuclear deal would not alter Iran’s backing of oppressed people in Yemen.

In a sermon to worshippers at the Eid al-Fitr mass prayers marking the end of the Holy month of Ramadan on Saturday, Imam Khamenei made it clear that Tuesday’s nuclear deal would not alter Iran’s support for regional allies nor its backing of oppressed people in Yemen as well as Bahrain and the Palestinians.

"Signing the nuclear deal will not alter our support for our regional friends; the oppressed Palestinian people, the oppressed Yemeni people, the people and government of Syria, the people and government of Iraq, and the Mujahedeen in Lebanon and Palestine will always get our support", he said.

"With regard to regional issues like Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Lebanon and Bahrain, the Islamic Republic of Iran does not pursue its own interests but it believes that the main decision-makers in these counties are the nations and others have no right to interfere and make decisions," Imam Khamenei said.

He pointed to arrogant powers’ policies on Yemen, saying the US is supporting Yemen’s fugitive former president who left the country at a sensitive juncture.
