The embassy of the Russian Federation issued a press release Tuesday regarding the delivery of humanitarian aid to Yemen.

The press release read:

“Between July 18 and 24, Russian humanitarian aid was delivered to the civilian population of Sana’a and Aden, respectively, in the Republic of Yemen. Aircraft belonging to the Emergency Ministry delivered over 40 tons of cargo, including large capacity tents plus food products. On July 19, 62 citizens of Russia and several other countries were brought back to Moscow by a return flight from the Yemeni capital.”

It added that “this humanitarian aid project was implemented upon the instructions of the Russian Government in close coordination with the authorities of Yemen, Saudi Arabia and several other countries as well within the framework of Russia’s efforts to ease the plight of the Yemeni people amid the ongoing armed conflict in the Republic of Yemen.”

Yemen has become one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. The UN says famine looms as over half the population, or 14.4 million people, face hunger and not even its hospitals are spared.

Moscow also called on all parties to end the violence plaguing the country and “to promptly settle the protracted internal Yemeni conflict through negotiations and an inclusive national dialogue.”

Yemen has been under brutal aggression by a Saudi-led coalition since March 26, 2015.

Thousands have been killed and injured in the attack, with the vast majority of them are civilians.

Riyadh launched the offensive on Yemen in a bid to allegedly restore power to fugitive president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi who is a close ally to Saudi Arabia.
