Five US mercenaries were killed Saturday in an ambush carried out by Yemeni army units and popular committees in Jawf province.

A military source disclosed to Al-Masirah that units of the army and the People's Committees managed to kill five mercenaries in an ambush in the area of Sabrin in the Kheb and Shaaf Directorate in the province.

The army and the popular committees have launched, at dawn on Friday, military operations on mercenary sites in the Shawak valley, Nuba Saber and Tabab Al Jorouf in Al-Ghayl Directorate, killing and wounding several militants.

An improvised explosive device in Sabreen area also killed a mercenary military team.

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

About 12,000 people have been killed and over 19,343 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.

Yemeni forces have been engaged in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
