The Yemeni army’s spokesperson, Brigadier General Sharaf Luqman, denied Friday that the Armed Forces and the People's Committees targeted an oil tanker off the coast of Yemen, adding that the army and committees respected maritime agreements and international law.

Brigadier General Luqman said in a statement quoted by the Yemeni official news agency that the army and the popular committees are committed to securing and protecting international navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab from piracy and terrorist attacks.

He pointed out that what is promoted by the Saudi-led coalition’s media that the army and the People's Committees targeted a Marshall Islands-flagged tanker off the coast of Yemen comes in the context of a dirty plot to justify operations the aggression might launch in the future.

On Thursday, the Saudi-led coalition reported that three rocket-propelled grenades were fired at the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker from a boat on Wednesday morning.
