Retaliatory Attacks Kill 11 Saudi Soldiers in Jizan

The Yemeni army and popular committees, launched their latest wave of retaliatory attacks shelling Saudi Arabia’s southern province of Jizan. The attacks reportedly killed 11 Saudi soldiers.

The projectiles fired targeted the Saudi military base of Habas in Jizan. Aside from those killed, the attacks also destroyed several vehicles.

In a separate development, 15 Saudi-backed mercenaries were killed in Yemen’s central province of Marib after the Arab country’s military forces launched a spate of attacks against them in the areas of al Raba’eh, al-Zaughn, al-Mashgah, al-Fara’a, Kawfal and al-Makhdarah.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

According to the United Nations humanitarian coordinator for Yemen, Jamie McGoldrick, the Saudi military campaign has claimed the lives of 10,000 Yemenis and left 40,000 others wounded.

Yemen’s Legal Center of Rights and Development puts the death toll at 12,000.
