Saudi forces stationed in the kingdom’s southern provinces came under a fresh barrage of rocket fire from the Yemeni side of the border.

The Yemeni army’s artillery and missile units backed by the country’s popular committees carried out the strikes in retaliation to the ongoing Saudi-led bombardment of Yemen, which claimed over 12,000 civilian lives since March 2015.

According to the Yemeni Saba News Agency, Katyusha rockets hit the Saudi provinces of Najran, Asir and Jizan.

There was no immediate word on the casualties.

Yemeni military operations in southern Saudi Arabia have become more frequent in recent months. The country’s sniper divisions have proven to be especially effective, recording hundreds of kills since the start of the year.
