Dozens of US-backed Saudi-paid mercenaries were killed and others injured in Taiz province, a military official told the state-run news agency Saba on Tuesday.

The missile units of the Yemeni army and popular forces fired Katyusha rockets on a gathering of the mercenaries southern Dhubab.

Meanwhile, scores of mercenaries were killed and wounded when the national forces repulsed their attempted advance under heavy military air cover toward Alnar Mountain.

The operation also resulted in the destruction of four military vehicles carrying machine guns belonging to the mercenaries.

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

About 11,403 people have been killed and over 19,343 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.

Yemeni forces have been engaged in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
