PM Receives ICRC Regional Director

Yemen’s Prime Minister Abdul Aziz Bin Habtoor on Monday received the regional director of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Robert Mardini.

The meeting focused on ways to strengthen cooperation between Yemen and the Red Cross and to limit the humanitarian losses due to the blockade against the Yemeni people, including the protection of civilians in areas resisting the aggression.

The meeting also discussed the role the ICRC in helping the wounded from the Saudi-led air strikes including the treatment of the wounded from the Great Hall massacre in Sana'a last year.

The Prime Minister appreciated the ICRC's humanitarian work with the Yemeni people, stressing on the importance of the humanitarian organization in continuing its efforts towards the innocent civilians including those in Mocha city of Taiz province.

Saudi Arabia has been engaged in a deadly campaign against Yemen since March 2015 in an attempt to reinstall the former Yemeni government.

The offensive has claimed 11,403 lives and left 19,343 others wounded, according to figures compiled by the Legal Center for Rights and Development, a Yemeni non-governmental monitoring group.
