Bahraini Activist Gets Jail Term for Slamming Saudi Attacks on Yemen

A Bahraini court sentenced a political activist to five years in jail for expressing his opposition to the Saudi regime’s onslaughts against Yemen, local media said on Sunday.

Bahrain National Democratic Society’s Secretary General, Fazel Abbas, was sentenced to 5 years in prison for issuing a statement in condemnation of the Saudi aggression on Yemen, which has killed hundreds of civilians, among them being women and children.

The Bahraini regime is a member of the Saudi-led coalition against Yemen and has participated in the military attacks on the country.

A Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States began carrying out airstrikes against Yemen since March-without a UN mandate.

The US-led Saudi aggression has killed more than 2,000 civilians, displaced more than a million and led to severe shortages of food, water, fuel and electricity.

Bahrain, itself, has been the scene of almost daily protests against the Bahraini regime since early 2011, when an uprising began in the kingdom.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others wounded and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on peaceful protests.
