The United Arab Emirates said an Emirati soldier has been killed while taking part in the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

The state-run WAM news agency reported the soldier's death on Friday. It identified the slain soldier as Sgt. Nader Mubarak Issa Suleiman.

The UAE is one of the main allies Saudi Arabia has in its war in Yemen against the Ansarullah revolutionaries known as the Houthis and their allies.

The aggression against Yemen has killed more than 10,000 civilians and displaced over 3 million people.

The Saudi-led coalition began its military campaign against the impoverished country in March 2015 in support of fugitive Yemeni president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi’s regime.

The war has ground into a stalemated conflict in recent months. Peace efforts by the United Nations also have faltered.
