Dozens of Saudi-paid mercenaries were killed and wounded when Yemen’s national army and popular forces foiled their attempt to infiltrate toward Mocha district of Taiz province overnight, a military official told the state-run news agency Saba on Monday.

The operation killed and injured dozens of mercenaries.

The official also said that the US-backed Saudi-paid mercenaries also tried to move toward al-Khadhra area, under heavy cover by the Saudi-led coalition warplanes and support from Al-Qaeda, Daesh and the Janjaweed militia. However, the attempt was also thwarted.

Dozens of mercenaries were killed and two of their military vehicles were damaged in the operation.

Meanwhile, the enemy fighter jets launched more than 250 air raids on Mocha over the past hours, the official added.

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

About 11,403 people have been killed and over 19,343 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.

Yemeni forces have been engaged in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
