ICRC Warns against Severe Food Security Deterioration in Yemen

The International Committee of the Red Cross [ICRC] has warned that Yemen food security is approaching a state of famine in many governorates in the country.

According to the ICRC, it said that 1,000 tons shipment of urgent food assistance, in addition to three big electricity generators, arrived at Hudaidah Seaport.

Antoine Grand, who heads the ICRC in Yemen, said that, "In view of the economic blockade that affects all the people in Yemen, the arrival of this emergency aid is a welcome development".

A near-blockade of Yemen’s ports has made it very difficult to deliver humanitarian aid.
A Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States began carrying out airstrikes against Yemen in March.

The US-led Saudi aggression has killed more than 2,000 civilians, displaced more than a million and led to severe shortages of food, water, fuel and electricity.
