The Yemeni Foreign Ministry welcomed the international peace initiatives to end the aggression and lift the siege imposed on the Yemeni people.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry renewed the position of the Supreme Political Council and the National Salvation Government regarding the peace initiatives, including the peace map proposed by the UN envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.

"We can deal positively with it (Ould Chekikh’s initiative) as the basis for the final negotiations with a view to an immediate cessation of the aggression and lifting the siege imposed on Yemen as well as reaching a comprehensive peaceful political settlement," the ministry said.

The statement pointed out that the Republic of Yemen is one of the peace-calling countries, and its principle position in resolving disputes is to resort to peaceful means to resolve any dispute or conflict with neighboring countries.

The statement was referring to the demarcation lines between Yemen and each of the Sultanate of Oman and Saudi Arabia.

"Yemen has not dragged into a military response after the Eritrean assault on the Yemeni Hanish islands, but went to international arbitration," the statement added.
