A total of 18 Saudi-paid mercenaries were killed and others injured when the Yemeni army and popular forces carried out a unique military operation in Taiz province on Monday, a military official disclosed.

The operations took place in Bair Basha area when the army and popular forces secured the air defense hilltop and al-Jarah area.

Meanwhile, the national forces repelled a mercenary attempt to infiltrate to al-Jahmalaih area. The allied forces also blew up another military vehicle belonging to the mercenaries in al-Sawda hilltop.

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

About 11,400 people have been killed and over 16,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.

Yemeni forces have been engaged in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
