Ould Sheikh Ahmed Violated His Mission as Peace Envoy

Mohammad Abdulsalam, the spokesperson for Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement, criticized the UN Special Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmed over his stance toward the conflict in the country.

On Tuesday, Abdulsalam accused Ahmed of providing cover for the Saudi-led coalition bombing Yemen.

In his statement, Abdulsalam - also the head of Yemen’s national delegation - said Ould Sheikh Ahmed has "violated his mission as a peace envoy, and turned into an instigator of war".

The Ansarullah spokesperson added that the UN envoy is "contributing one way or another to.... prolonging the war and adopting fallacies and fabrications only heard through the media channels of the countries’ of aggression."

Abdulsalam pointed out that the UN envoy has adopted the Saudi-led coalition’s version of events regarding the alleged Mecca missile attack, despite the fact that the UN official was previously informed about the details of the operation by the Ansarullah movement.

Looking to avoiding another PR disaster in an already catastrophic military campaign, the Saudis initially claimed to have intercepted the ballistic missile launched by the Houthi Ansarulah movement. The spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition Ahmed Asiri said that the projectile was shot down 65 kilometers from Mecca, suggesting that the holy city was the target.

Ansarullah officials in Sana’a have dismissed Riyadh’s allegations as ridiculous, calling the claims a "repugnant attempt to incite Muslims emotions".

Confirming that the Jeddah airport was struck by a "Volcano 1" rocket, the Yemeni army declared that the operation was "successful and achieved its allocated objective".
