A strategic airbase of Saudi Arabia in the southern part of the kingdom was hit with a ballistic missile by the Yemeni Army.

"Saudi Arabia’s Khaled bin Abdel Aziz airbase, located near Khamis Mushait region, was hit by Yemen’s Qaher-I missile, sustaining heavy losses," a military source said.

There is no information about the number of casualties, but in the past, Saudi personnel and military equipment suffered heavy losses as a result of similar ballistic missile attacks by Yemen.

The attack was in response to Saudi Arabia’s continued air raids on Yemen’s civilian population all over the country.

On September 10, an industrial zone, including a power plant and a desalination plant, in al-Shaqiq region of Jizan province in the southern part of Saudi Arabia came under Yemeni Scud missile attack. According to reports, missile precisely hit its targets.

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

About 10,000 people have been killed and over 16,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.

Yemeni forces have been engaged in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
