The European Union Parliament has expressed concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation as well as the infrastructure destruction in Yemen due to the Saudi-led coalition airstrikes.

The parliament pointed out that over 80 percent of the population need urgent humanitarian aid due to the lack of food, water, and basic medical services.

Urging to put an immediate end to attacks against medical facilities, the EU parliament demanded all parties to respect the international humanitarian law and avoid targeting civilians or civil installations.

It called for an immediate ceasefire to allow humanitarian organizations to provide assistance, food, medical aid, and fuel to those who are in need.

In this regard, it called on the EU and other donors to respond to the United Nations humanitarian appeal regarding the financial support for Yemen.

The EU parliament condemned the Saudi-led coalition air strikes, calling on the coalition to suspend its raids immediately and lift the blockade to allow access of humanitarian aid to those in need, and create conditions for dialogue between warring sides.

It also stressed that the only possible solution in Yemen is a political one.
