Bomb Attack on Mosque in Northern Yemen: Several Casualties

A bomb attack on a mosque in the town of Shibam in northern Yemen has left several casualties on Friday.

The blast took place in Shibam, a city located about 40 km west of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, in al-Mahweet province.

Over the past months, the so-called "Daesh" ["ISIL"] extremist group has carried out several bomb attacks on mosques similar to Friday’s attack.

In late September, two "Daesh" extremists blew themselves up in the al-Balili Mosque in al-Safia neighborhood in the capital, Sana’a, killing at least 29 worshipers during the Eid al-Adha holiday. A car bomb also went off near Qubat al-Mahdi Mosque in the Old City of Sana’a in mid-June, killing three people and injuring seven others as well.

This is also while a Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States has been carrying out a military aggression on Yemen by launching airstrikes against the country since March 26. The airstrikes have not been authorized by the United Nations [UN].
