Almost half of Yemen’s 22 governorates are facing emergency level food insecurity -- one step below famine -- according to the World Food Program, a United Nations [UN] spokesman said on Monday.

This is while a Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States continues to carry out a military aggression on Yemen by launching airstrikes against the country since March. The airstrikes have not been authorized by the UN.

"Yemen’s fragile food security is deteriorating fast", UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at a daily news briefing on Monday, as Xinhua News Agency reported.

"Ten out of Yemen’s 22 governorates are classified as facing food insecurity at emergency level -- one step below famine", he further said.

Yemen has been facing a mounting humanitarian crisis since conflict broke out in the impoverished country on March 26.
