Iran’s Parliament [Majlis] Speaker Ali Larijani deplored the Saudi regime for its continued onslaughts against the people of Yemen, saying that Saudi Arabia has committed "unprecedented" crimes in the country during its seven-month war so far.

Speaking in a meeting in Iran’s capital of Tehran with the deputy head of the Yemeni Supreme Revolutionary Council Naef Ahmad al-Qanis on Saturday, Larijani condemned the Saudi government’s "unprecedented" war crimes in Yemen, describing the Saudi regime as "an evil regime" in the Middle East.

"Evidence shows that the Saudi regime has committed many crimes in Yemen resulting in the destruction of [the country’s] infrastructure and the death and injury of thousands of innocent people", he said.

He further said the Yemeni people would undoubtedly emerge victorious in the "unequal war" against their country.

"Yemen and the Yemeni people are very important to us and the country’s issues constitute a constant concern for the Islamic Republic of Iran", Larijani added.

For his part, Qanis said that the Yemeni people will never forget the Islamic Republic’s stance on Yemen.

He asked the Iranian authorities to pave the ground for the transfer of injured Yemenis to Tehran given the lack of medical supplies in the war-stricken country.

Yemen has been under Saudi military strikes on a daily basis since March.

Since March 26, a Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States has been carrying out a military aggression on Yemen by launching airstrikes against the country in a bid to restore power to the fugitive former Yemeni president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Saudi Arabia.

The airstrikes have not been authorized by the United Nations [UN].

According to the Yemeni health ministry, the death toll from the Saudi-led aggression has reached more than 6,000 people so far, including 1,277 children and 1,041 women.
