Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Mark Lowcock, stressed that Yemen is once again facing the threat of famine.

“Today, the spectre of famine has returned. The risk has become so serious that we have again notified you, as we are required to do, under the terms of Security Council resolution 2417 – just as we did two years ago,” Lowcock said at a briefing to the Security Council on the humanitarian situation in Yemen.

Lowcock called on all donors to pay their pledges and increase their support, stressing that “resolving the dispute which is behind the fuel blockade is essential to stop Yemen’s drift towards famine.”
