Local sources in Marib province on Wednesday revealed details of the attempted assassination of the defense minister and chief of staff in the resigned regime of Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

The sources pointed out that an attack with an explosive device targeted the car of the chief of staff Sagheer bin Aziz Tuesday night during a meeting of leaders of Saudi-led coalition forces inside the so-called “third military region’s headquarters” in Sahn al-Jin area of Marib city.

The explosion killed and wounded a number of bin Aziz’s bodyguards and some of senior commanders of the coalition forces in the city of Marib.

Ali Mohsin bin Salah, one of the general staff officers of Hadi forces, said in a post on Facebook Wednesday that the explosion was caused by an explosive device planted in a military car belonging to bin Aziz’s escorts. He did not rule out the involvement of Islah party in the attack.

Bin Aziz had previously survived a similar attack that targeted the ministry’s headquarters in Marib province last year.
