Yemen’s Popular Committees Shoot Down U.S. Drone

Yemen’s popular committees backed by the Houthi revolutionaries announced late on Friday that they had shot down a U.S. drone north of the capital Sana’a.

"Our air defences shot down MQ-1 Predator Drone in Hamdan district north of the capital Sana’a," read a brief statement on the official Saba news agency.

According to a military source, the drone is run by the Saudi-led coalition forces. There were no comments by the coalition over the committees’ claim.

Saudi Arabia launched a military coalition against Yemen in March 2015 to forcefully restore former Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi back to power.

The Houthi Ansarullah movement has threatened to strike Riyadh and Abu Dhabi if the coalition forces pushed into Hodeida, a key sea port for the entry of most food imports and humanitarian aid.
