UK Welcomes Progress On Stockholm Agreement

Britain welcomed the progress made on agreeing redeployment of troops from Hodeida by Yemen’s Houthi movement and the resigned regime over the weekend.

“This encouraging progress represents a significant step forward in the political process,” said a Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesperson in a statement issued Monday. “But more careful work remains to be done. The UK urges all parties to continue to work with the UN Special Envoy to rapidly finalize and implement the agreed plan.”

The warring Yemeni parties agreed to an initial redeployment of forces during a meeting of the Redeployment Co-ordination Committee, chaired by General Lollesgaard.

The statement urged the Yemeni parties to “engage constructively and in good faith to overcome obstacles and find a political solution to end the conflict.”

Phase one will see the redeployment of forces away from the ports of Hodeida, Ras Isa and As Salif and from the humanitarian sites around the city of Hodeida.

The parties aim to finalize an agreement on phase two within a week.
