NGOs Urge More International Support for Yemen

More than a dozen humanitarian organizations congratulate the Yemeni opposing parties to the conflict on the cooperation and persistence that have led to the most positive agreements seen for civilians in more than three years.

NGOs, including the Norwegian Refugee Council, Oxfam and Mercy Corps also called for more international support.

“As humanitarian organizations delivering aid in Yemen, we have visibility of a crisis that is largely obscured from global view. The implications of the conflict on Yemeni civilians are far-reaching, long-lasting and necessitate the full, ongoing support of the international community,” the 18 organizations said in a joint statement released on Friday.

The week-long negotiations were the first between Yemen's warring sides since 2016. Yemen's warring parties agreed on Thursday to cease fighting for the vital port city of Hodeida and withdraw their troops.
