UNICEF announced the death of a Yemeni child in Hodeida as a result of severe malnutrition.

“Adam is one of 400,000 severely malnourished children in Yemen,” UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Geert Cappelaere, said. “They – like Adam – might also die, any minute.”

Adam was a10 year-old weighing only 10 kilograms. He died in Hodeida’s al-Thawra Hospital.

According to Cappelaere, the hospital “is now in the line of fire.”

For its part, OCHA sent its sympathy to Adam’s family for his untimely death.

“We appeal to parties to the conflict in Yemen to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure. The lives of too many innocent children are on the line,” it posted on its Twitter page.

Meanwhile, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) warned that hundreds of thousands of Yemenis were in danger in the country’s western province of Hodeida.

The Committee noted that the forthcoming talks should not be taken as an excuse to disregard the laws of war that protect the lives of the people.
