The European Commission strongly condemned the recent attack on the offices of the International Committee of the Red Cross [ICRC] in the city of Aden in Yemen, which has caused the ICRC to relocate its staff.

In a statement on Tuesday, the European Commission said that, "Such attacks are an affront to International Humanitarian Law [IHL]. They not only threaten the safety of humanitarian workers, but jeopardise the effective running of much needed humanitarian operations in Yemen", it said.

It also called on parties to the conflict to respect IHL, and to "cease targeting humanitarian workers so that they can do their job and deliver humanitarian aid to people in need".

The ICRC strongly condemned on Tuesday an attack which had taken place on its offices by unidentifed gunmen in Aden a day earlier on Monday, and said that it had temporarily suspended its activities after the raid.

This is while an ongoing military aggression by Saudi Arabia against Yemen continues to bomb civilians and infrastructure while they also airdrop arms and ammunition to militants.

A Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States has been carrying out a military aggression on Yemen by launching airstrikes against the country since March 26. The airstrikes have not been authorized by the United Nations [UN].
