Hadi Appoints Saudi Citizen to Yemeni Deputy Governor Position

Pro-Saudi self-appointed “president of Yemen”, Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, has once again sparked outrage, this time with a decision to appoint a person who does not have Yemeni citizenship, to the position of Deputy Governor of one of Yemen’s provinces.

According to political sources used by the Yemen Press Agency, the self-declared leader of Yemen since 2012, who is in reportedly living under some sort of house arrest in Saudi Arabia, has appointed someone named Hadi Ein Saleh Mohammed Saeed, a Saudi citizen without Yemeni nationality, to the position of Deputy Governor of Mahrah province in the far east of Yemen.

Some observers have stated that such a decision, which runs against Yemeni laws and customs, would be made in the interests of the Saudi petroleum industry, which is reportedly making plans to construct a direct oil pipeline from Saudi Arabia straight through Yemen to the Arabian Sea, thereby bypassing both the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf.
