The Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) has received RM250,000 from Yayasan Yara to install a solar-powered water pump in the district of Taiz, Yemen.

MRA president Dr Mohd Daud Sulaiman said it would be the third solar powered water pump installed in Yemen by the agency along with other supporting agencies.

“Our continuous efforts to help the needy in Yemen is now fruitful as we have received the contributions from Yayasan Yara.

“They have also pledged their support to the humanitarian works that we are conducting at this place,” he said, adding that the district of Yemen was poor and received thousands of refugees.

The MRA had already installed the water pump in the Al-Saeed, Golah and Souq Al-Qadeem districts of Shabwah in the war-ravaged nation.

The installation has helped about 14,000 people access to clean water in the area, and also at a few mosques and schools there.

“The humanitarian efforts by MRA which started in 2015 has been consistent with us aiding the people in Yemen through various types of assistance, mainly for clean water access, food and medical assistance,” said Dr Daud in a statement.
